Senioritis

Our next news story focussed on Senioritis. We shot a lot of B-roll and had fun doing it. We learned a couple things from our first video. We know you cannot have enough B-Roll. During the editing process, more b-roll makes every students jobs easier. We had some lighting problems for the filming at the bar. Overall as a team we thought this was a better video than out last one. We just had a couple problems that could be avoided. We didn't use a tripod and our lighting had problems. I think we had a strong idea and strong work.

Digital FLip Use

This past weekend I used the digital flip to solve a business problem. The problem is the sale of a house. A family member is trying to sell his house, and he came to me and asked if I had any input. My idea was to shoot video instead of still pictures. My idea was to post a short 90 second video tour of the property. I went to the house that was for sale and began shooting. My plan was to start from the outside and work my way in showing each room for about 15-20 seconds. However since I was shooting indoors I did experience some problems. It was a very sunny day outside, but the house was not well lit. The light coming in from the window was too bright in comparison with the light in the room. As I would pan by the windows, it would take the flip a couple seconds to readjust from the bright windows to the dark walls. I noticed the rooms with less windows and more natural light came out a lot better. The audio was low at times, but the soft music in the background worked well. All this being said, the videos came out good enough to use and we will see if it helps with the sale of the house.

Video Review

Today we completed and watched our first team videos in class. My team did a news story on the campus smoking ban. I thought our video was good. I liked how our video was edited and produced. I thought all our team members did a good job at their specific field. I had fun doing this project and look forward to creating more video.

First Team Video team viper

Today we are going to start our first video assignment that will be done completely out of class. Our topic is the smoking ban on campus. The smokingban was established last semester. It forced smokers to smoke only in the "smoking" zones on campus. A lot of these zones are gazebos that have been strategically placed throughout campus. Our story idea is to see how some of these smokers feel about the ban, what they think should be improve/changed, and also how non smokers have been affected. We are going to start filming interviews and B-roll today. I am excited to see how this project turns out.

Interview

I interviewed Professor Jim Hasenfus, Jim is a political science professor at Roger Williams. He is the teacher of my American Government and Politics class. I chose Prof. Hasenfus to interview because this is a very important time for political science experts and I thought his input would be interesting at this moment in time. Prof. Hasenfus told a personal story about his memories of the day President Kennedy was shot.

Interview with Mike

This is the first edit of my video with Mike. This is a short clip of Mike talking about his involvement in the RWU golf program. Mike is a senior at Roger Williams University and is the founder of the program. Mike came to Roger Williams in 2004 expecting to play on the existing team. Budget cuts forced the school to end the team. By the end of his first year at the University, Mike started a new golf program. The program has grown in size every year and the team has hopes of becoming a varsity sport in the future.
